About the Club

The club was formed in 1985 in Livingston, Scotland and has grown steadily year upon year. In January 2000, in conjunction with West Lothian Council, we established the first community football club in West Lothian. We are based at Bankton Mains, Murieston, where we administer the grass and astroturf facilities. We strive to include individuals of all abilities and from all backgrounds in our community. 

1985/86 - Under 12's and Under 13's entered into West Lothian Leagues

1985/86 - First player signed was the outstanding Derek Fleming (Partick Thistle, ex Livingston, Hearts, Meadowbank, Dunfermline, and Dundee)

1986/87 - The Under 11's are formed and one of the first signings is the future Scotland prospect Chris Innes (presently Livingston, Gretna, Kilmarnock, Queens Park and Stenhousemuir)

1987/88 - The club introduces Under 9's and 10's to provide a feeder system

1988/89 - The clubs first venture into Europe is headed by coach Iain Anderson as he leads the Under 13's into 3rd place in the Maastricht tournament in Holland.

1989/90 - Club plans for a multi purpose clubhouse are rejected, but this eventually leads to dressing rooms being built at Bankton Mains

Late 80's/Early 90's - the club expands at a rapid rate and captures league titles and cups at various age groups

Mid 90's - Local Councillor John Richardson is heavily involved in ensuring a major upgrade to the facilities at Bankton Mains with new dressing rooms, introduction of Astroturf facilities, and improved pitch drainage

Mid 90's - Introduction of the clubs Under 18's and Under 21's who have been competing in the Edinburgh leagues ever since

Mid 90's - West Lothian Soccer Sevens is formed and Jim Thomson plays a leading part in establishing the Association, becoming league secretary

1995/96 - Kevin Boyd represents the Scottish Youth Football select at Under 14's and 15's, before going on to a professional career with Hibernian and Livingston.

1996 - Tommy Harris, Stevie Blanche, and Bob Malcolm open one of the first Soccer Schools to be operated by a boys club in West Lothian, and this successful initiative quickly expands, and is now incorporated by other clubs

1996/97 - John Matthews of the Under 18's represents the Scottish schoolboys

1996/97 - Gary Wales (presently Kilmarnock, ex Hearts & Hamilton) signs for the club and is unsurprisingly our top goal scorer

Easter 1998 - Bob Malcolm leads his Under 9's (Soccer 7's) team to success in winning the tournament in Ernegen, Belgium

May 1998 saw the untimely death of Bob Malcolm. Bob was the leading light of Murieston United Soccer Sevens after Jim Thomson left the club in 1996 and Bob is still sadly missed by the club members

1999 - The club obtains its own clubhouse (with Kitchen) at Bankton Mains

1999 - Murie coach Gary Law starts his specialised goalkeepers coaching class for both Murie and other keepers and it becomes an instant success

Easter 1999 - Graham Jervis leads the Under 10's (Soccer 7's) team to success in winning the Hospitality Cup in Kerkrade, Holland, a fitting memorial to the much loved Bob Malcolm

August 1999 - The club changes its constitution and is now formally called Murieston United Community Football Club, to reflect its evolving role within the community

January 2000 - Tommy Harris (Chairman) and Jackie Malcolm (Secretary) sign an initial lease agreement on behalf of the club for the management of the Bankton Mains facilities.

April 2001 - Both club and chairman Tommy Harris' achievements are recognised as they pick up separate awards at the inaugural "Best in the West" awards ceremony, hosted by West Lothian Council.

May 2001 - Clubroom expansion at Bankton Mains provides additional changing facilities, disabled access, first aid/physio room and an expanded clubroom

May 2001 - Under 21's, led by Duncan Turner, win the East of Scotland Division 2 title.

June 2001 - New clubhouse expansion is officially opened and a 25 year lease is signed for the Bankton Mains facilities.

September 2001 - The club launches its "Involvement Initiative" an innovative project aimed at combating the high drop-out rate from football of youth footballers

June 2010 - A celebratory 25th Anniversary dinner is held, with guest speakers Alan Rough and George McNeill.

August 2010 - The first home kit sponsor for the entire club is launched for ''

September 2010 - The club were awarded the SFA 'Community' Quality Mark.

December 2010 - The club open the floodlit 3G picthes (11-a-side and kick-pitch).

November 2012 - The U17 Girls team win the Scottish Cup with a 3-0 win over Glasgow Girls at Toryglen.

May 2013 - The club 'go green' with Solar panels fitted to the clubrooms reducing our carbon footprint.

August 2014 - The club announce launch an entire range of 'own label' kit and also a home shirt sponsor for the entire club 'Calton Floors Ltd'.

January 2015 - The club are awarded the SFA 'Legacy' Quality Mark.
